چکیده

This contribution compares several types of feed-forward synchronization algorithms when applied to powerful error-correcting codes. As such codes operate at very low SNR, conventional synchronization algorithms often prove to be unreliable. By exploiting the code properties we may improve the synchronization performance. We investigate a code-aided synchronizer that operates according the EM algorithm. This synchronizer is applied to the problem of carrier phase and timing synchronization. Lower bounds on the estimator performance are derived: we express the true Cramer-Rao Bound for the system as a function of the marginal posterior probabilities of the coded symbols. Various synchronization algorithms are compared in terms of their estimation error variance and their effect on the BER.

Capacity Bounds and High-SNR Capacity of the Additive Exponential Noise Channel With Additive Exponential Interference

Communication in the presence of a priori known interference at the encoder has gained great interest because of its many practical applications. In this paper, additive exponential noise channel with additive exponential interference (AENC-AEI) known non-causally at the transmitter is introduced as a new variant of such communication scenarios‎. First, it is shown that the additive Gaussian ch...

Improving the Performance of ICA Algorithm for fMRI Simulated Data Analysis Using Temporal and Spatial Filters in the Preprocessing Phase

Introduction: The accuracy of analyzing Functional MRI (fMRI) data is usually decreases in the presence of noise and artifact sources. A common solution in for analyzing fMRI data having high noise is to use suitable preprocessing methods with the aim of data denoising. Some effects of preprocessing methods on the parametric methods such as general linear model (GLM) have previously been evalua...

Performance Bounds on Matched-Field Methods

Matched-field methods concern estimation of source location and/or ocean environmental parameters by exploiting full wave modeling of acoustic waveguide propagation. Typical estimation performance demonstrates two fundamental limitations. First, sidelobe ambiguities dominate the estimation at low signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), leading to a threshold performance behavior. Second, most matched-fiel...

Bluetooth demodulation algorithms and their performance

In our Software Defined Radio SDR project we aim at combining two different types of standards, Bluetooth and HiperLAN/2 on one common hardware platform. Goal of our project is to generate knowledge about designing the front end of an SDR system (from the antenna signal to the channel bit stream) where especially an approach from both analog and digital perspective is essential. Bluetooth uses ...

Performance bounds in Synchronization for low Signal-to-Noise Ratios

In this contribution we consider the Cramer-Rao bound (CRB) for the estimation of the synchronization parameters of a noisy linearly modulated signal with random data symbols. We explore three scenarios, i.e., (i) joint estimation of carrier phase, carrier frequency and time delay, irrespective of the data; (ii) joint estimation of carrier frequency and time delay, irrespective of the data and ...
